Airport safety is always crucial for a secure and enjoyable travel experience. But, the Holidays bring larger crowds and more opportunities for things to go awry. Remember, being prepared and vigilant is key to a safe journey. Here are some tips to help you stay safe:

Pack Smart: Follow the guidelines for carry-on luggage and checked baggage. Prohibited items can cause delays at security checkpoints. Use TSA-approved locks for your checked luggage.

Ensure electronics are charged before reaching the airport:  Some security checks may require you to turn on your electronic devices and airport charging stations aren’t always secure.

Never Use Public Charging Ports: Always use a plug to charge your devices. Public charging ports are subject to hacking and hardware manipulation that allow your devices to be compromised.

Be Wary of Free Wi-Fi: Use secure, password-protected Wi-Fi networks. Avoid accessing sensitive sites, like online banking, or payment apps over public Wi-Fi networks.  Activating a VPN can provide an additional layer of security for your online activities, but I avoid accessing these sites altogether unless it’s an emergency or I’m sure I’m on a secured network.

Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings.

  • Pay attention to the people around you and be cautious of anyone acting suspiciously.

  • Report any suspicious activities or items to airport security.

Pay Attention to Emergency Exit Locations: In the unlikely event that chaos breaks out, you’ll know immediately which way to go.

Keep Your Belongings Close:

Never leave your luggage unattended to prevent theft. Also, unattended bags can be a security threat and may be confiscated.

Secure Your Valuables: Use a money belt or a secure, hidden pouch for valuable items like passports, credit cards, and cash.

Be Mindful of Scams: Be aware of common scams targeting travelers, such as fake petitions, distractions leading to theft, or overpriced taxi services.

Guard Your Personal Information: Be discreet when discussing your travel plans or personal information, especially in public areas. Avoid displaying your boarding pass or passport to others unnecessarily.

Stay Informed: Keep an ear on the airport's announcement system for any updates or changes regarding your flight.

Travel Light: The fewer bags you have, the easier it is to keep track of your belongings and move through the airport.

Only Use Official Airport Transportation Services. Avoid accepting rides from unofficial or unmarked vehicles.
